Experience behind the work

Experienced BI consulting without the agency overhead.

Borrowed BI was built for teams that need senior-level reporting, ETL, dashboard, and data warehouse support before they are ready for a full-time data hire. Based in Northern Virginia and working remotely with nonprofits, small businesses, and mission-driven teams across the U.S.

Hands-on BI experience

Senior BI and data experience, applied directly to the problem.

Borrowed BI is led by a senior BI and data professional with more than 15 years of hands-on experience across reporting, analytics, data warehouses, automation, and data engineering. The work has included building and improving reporting systems, aligning metrics, supporting stakeholders, and making complex data environments easier to trust and maintain.

The approach is practical and hands-on. The goal is not to introduce more tools or complexity than the organization needs. It is to understand what is breaking, improve the right parts, document the work, and leave the reporting process easier to operate than it was before. The same senior professional leads the analysis, recommendations, and implementation, without layers of account management or unnecessary handoffs.

How the work is approached

Understand first. Improve what matters. Leave it maintainable.

  1. Start with the business question

Clarify the decision, audience, reporting deadline, and operational problem before changing the tool.

  2. Trace the reporting logic

Follow the numbers through source systems, calculations, definitions, refresh steps, and manual handoffs.

  3. Fix the right layer

Repair the dashboard, workflow, data model, or process that is actually causing the problem.

  4. Document and hand off

Leave clear definitions, refresh instructions, ownership guidance, and practical next steps.

Data access and ownership

Careful access. Clear ownership.

BI work may involve sensitive systems, reporting logic, and operational data. The working approach is designed to limit access, keep control with your team, and leave a clear handoff.

  • Client-approved access

Work uses client-approved accounts, environments, and permission methods whenever practical.

  • Minimum necessary permissions

Only the access needed for the agreed work is requested, and broader access is avoided when a narrower option will do.

  • Sensitive information is minimized

Passwords, credentials, and sensitive personal data should not be sent through the contact form or ordinary email. Data can be masked or limited where practical.

  • Documentation and access handoff

The client retains the definitions, reporting logic, and handoff materials needed to continue operating the work. At the end of the engagement, access is removed, transferred, or confirmed according to the client's process.
