Custom BI consulting for nonprofits and small businesses.

I help small businesses and nonprofits connect scattered data, define reliable metrics, and build Tableau or Power BI dashboards. From a new dashboard to reporting across several systems, the work is scoped around the decisions your team needs to make.

Custom-scoped. You get the scope, timeline, and price in writing before any work begins.

Three kinds of custom projects

Most custom work falls into one of these. Your project may combine pieces of more than one.

Cross-system reporting redesign

For reporting that depends on several systems, teams, exports, or handoffs.

Can include

  • A review of how data flows today
  • Aligning metrics across systems
  • Redesigning the reporting model or workflow
  • A prioritized plan to put it in place

Data warehouse and reporting foundation

For when your dashboards need something sturdier underneath them.

Can include

  • Warehouse or reporting layer design
  • Planning pipelines and transformations
  • Modeling data from source to report
  • Architecture guidance tied to what you report on

Multi-team KPI and implementation work

For initiatives that need shared definitions and coordinated delivery.

Can include

  • KPI governance and aligned calculations
  • Implementation across several workstreams
  • Coordinating with stakeholders
  • Technical leadership and a documented handoff

Custom project, or a defined service?

Go custom when…

  • The problem spans several systems or departments.
  • Pipelines, warehouse, metrics, and reports all need work together.
  • Several workstreams need to be coordinated.
  • The right scope depends on what we find first.

A defined service fits better when…

How scope and pricing work

Custom work doesn’t have a set price, but it never has a surprise one either. You’ll see everything in writing before you commit.

  1. You describe the problem

The reporting issue, the systems involved, and what you need to see.

  2. I review what it touches

The teams, data dependencies, and work involved.

  3. I recommend an approach

What I’d do first, and exactly what’s in scope.

  4. You get it in writing

Scope, deliverables, timeline, and price, before any work begins.

Things people ask first

Why isn’t there a set price?

Because cross-system work depends on how many systems, teams, and reports are involved. Once I understand that, you get a fixed scope and price in writing before anything starts.

How is this different from monthly support?

A custom project has a defined outcome and end date. Monthly support is ongoing hours for whatever comes up. A common path is a project to build the foundation, then monthly support to keep it going.

Do you build data warehouses?

Yes, when it makes sense. That can mean designing a warehouse or reporting layer, planning pipelines, and modeling data from source to report, sized to what you actually need.

Will you replace our current tools?

Not unless they truly can’t do the job. I start with what you have, and if something new would help, I’ll recommend the right fit for your size and budget.

Can you work across several teams?

Yes. Aligning definitions across departments and coordinating the people involved is a big part of this kind of work.

What do we get at the end?

Whatever the scope says, plus a documented handoff: operating instructions and a walkthrough so your team can maintain it.

Which tools do you work with?

Tableau, Power BI, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Redshift, dbt, Airflow, Python, AWS, and more. If you use something else, I’ll get up to speed quickly.

Should we start with an audit instead?

If you’re not sure where the problem is, a Reporting Reality Check is a smaller first step that can feed straight into a custom project.
